A few years ago I took my children apple picking. It was so much fun and we came home with three bags full of apples! So what do you do with all those apples? Well, you spend ALL DAY in the kitchen making your grandmother’s apple butter recipes. It was totally delicious but man was it labor intensive. This is NOT that recipe.
This is a recipe for Pumpkin Butter. I know we all love apple butter but I decided to make this on a whim and boy am I glad that I did! I threw everything together in my crock pot (you know how I LOVE my crock pot) and later that evening we had three jars full of delicious pumpkin butter. The Pumpkin butter is just amazing to top off some toast or on a slice of fresh baked bread!
Pumpkin butter is very similar to apple butter but just made with pumpkin instead. For this recipe I even used canned pumpkin puree which means no peeling or slicing either.
Crock Pot Pumpkin Butter
- 2 Large Cans Pumpkin (29oz)
- 1 1/2 c brown sugar
- 1/2 c pure maple syrup
- 1/2 c apple juice
- 1/4 c orange juice
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp all spice
- 1/2 tsp ground gloves
Stir all ingredients together in your crock pot. Set on high and cook 6+ hrs stirring occasionally.
If you’re feeling neighborly, seal some up in a mason jar and take it next door-what a great gift! You can also freeze this in air tight containers and save it for another day. If you are eating yours now, don’t forget to refrigerate it so it will last longer.
