Motherhood; the only job that requires you to work sixteen hour days and be on call for the other eight. Let’s face it, if you have children – especially small children – you are busy and rarely get a moment to yourself. With four kids, my youngest nine months, I’m excited if I get to pee alone these days! But that doesn’t mean that I don’t need some moments of ME TIME too. It’s hard to find but I do manage to squeeze in some ME TIME each day, even if it’s just for 5 minutes, to reset. Some days I might get more time to myself than others, and some days it’s all I can do to go to the bathroom alone! But each day I need a minute, to clear my head, take a few deep breaths, and be the person my children need me to be: MOM.
So, how do I do it? What are my tips to squeeze in some me time when you’re a busy mom? Well sometimes you have to be creative and others you really just have to look at the obvious. Take a look at your day and see just where you can fit some alone time in.
Here are my favorite ways to take a break…
Wake up early.
One of my favorite times of day is the early morning, just as the sun is coming up. I wake up at least an hour before my children to make sure I get some much needed alone time I love it when everyone is asleep, the house is quiet, and I can focus on preparing for the day ahead.
Take a hot bath.
Once the kids are in bed it is so wonderful to wind down the evening with a hot bath. I love to soak and just relax.
Take a Walk.
Exercise and fresh air can do wonders. If you can manage a neighborhood walk sans kids in the evening, great! But if not, even stepping out onto the back porch and a few deep breaths of fresh air can instantly calm and lift your spirits.
Pour a hot drink while the baby naps.
